Das Mönchehaus Museum präsentiert mit The Upson Girls die erste institutionelle Einzelausstellung von Frances Scholz (*1962 in Washington D.C., lebt in Köln) in Niedersachsen. Das medienübergreifende Werk in Kollaboration mit Natur und Landschaft – von post-abstrakter Malerei über Film und Fotografie bis hin zu Glasskulpturen und Videoinstallationen aus deep learning AI generierten Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) – tritt in Dialog mit der historischen Fachwerkarchitektur des Hauses, seinen Besucher*innen sowie des umliegenden Waldes.
Die Ausstellung greift Karen Barads Idee der Intra-Aktion auf und begreift das Leben als Netzwerk: Menschen, andere Lebewesen und Dinge existieren nicht unabhängig voneinander, sondern als Beziehungsgeflechte.

The Mönchehaus Museum presents The Upson Girls, the first institutional solo exhibition in Lower Saxony by Frances Scholz (*1962, Washington, D.C.; lives in Cologne). Created in collaboration with nature and landscape, her cross-media work – ranging from post-abstract painting, film, and photography to glass sculpture and video installations generated from deep-learning AI Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) – enters into dialogue with the historic timber-frame architecture of the house, its visitors, and the surrounding forest.
The exhibition draws on Karen Barad’s concept of intra-action and understands life as a network: humans, other living beings, and things do not exist independently, but as entangled relations.
