Matt Copson’s multimedia work comprises video and laser projections as well as installations. His nocturnal dream world, full of black humour and burlesque irony, is populated by fantastical and anthropomorphic figures. Legendary beasts like the fox and baleful birds of prey play a dominant role. Allusions to fables and myths are present, as are quotations from comics and the everyday world. In musically accompanied monologues which oscillate between poem and manifesto, the protagonists of Matt Copson’s image world develop an illusion-free view of the state of our world.
Matt Copson, b. 1992, lives and works in London, where in 2014 he graduated from the Slade School of Art.
